Budget FPV

If you are on a budget and want to learn how to fly a quadcopter using first person view(FPV), a simulator may be the answer. After all, a complete FPV rig can easily cost over $1000 when you include the radio, quadcopter, FPV gear and a GoPro.

Setup

I captured the above video from RealFlight 5.5. Version 5.5 doesn’t come with a quadcopter on the disc, so I downloaded a user created GAUI 330X-S Quad Flyer V2_EA from the RealFlight swap pages. Thanks go out to oneeyejack for creating such a great virtual quadcopter!

After downloading, I just imported it into RealFlight and changed the camera location to “cockpit”. The actual software has much higher resolution. Some quality was lost in the capturing process.

Conclusion

I haven’t flown FPV yet, but the simulator feels similar to the real flying I have done when the camera is set to “fixed position”. I am trying to learn FPV flying the easy way, as I described in my post about learning to fly the wrong way. Hopefully, this will help!
