I have no opinion about who was right or wrong here. I just thought this was interesting.
Should I build a tricopter, quadcopter, hexacopter, octocopter or some other configuration? There are lots of choices, but unlike these guys, I decided to start off with the simple stuff.
Initially, I didn’t even realize there were any possibilities other than a quadcopter. That is the most popular configuration and seemed like the obvious choice.
But, then I found David Windestål’s site where he goes into great detail on how to build a DIY tricopter. Reading his build plan and watching his flight videos was very inspiring, so I decided to build his tricopter. He uses the KKMulticopter board, so I ordered one of those off ebay, but I noticed most of the other items on his list were sold out at Hobby King, which is the go to site for cheap Chinese quadcopter parts. Hmm, what to do?
